Bibliometric metadata plays a key role in supporting research assessment and research management. The most commonly used bibliometric databases are of a proprietary nature, but over the past few years, there has been an important trend toward open alternatives to these proprietary data sources. In this talk I will highlight some of the key developments, I will reflect on the benefits of open bibliometric metadata, and I will discuss future trends.
The CWTS Leiden Ranking: a responsible approach to university ranking
Nowadays Universities pay considerable attention to university rankings in their decision making. During this talk I will provide with a general landscape of university rankings and the role the Leiden Ranking plays in this landscape. I will also reflect on the importance of being aware of the limitations of university rankings and the caveats in their use when used them in a responsible manner.
